Events & Activities
The Guild has been involved in numerous National Embroidery events.
One of these is "iGhali", the brainchild of the Helderberg Embroiderers' Guild. This is an event where members of the various Embroiderers' Guilds can come together for a few days to participate in workshops and get to know each other. The first "iGhali" was held in 2001 at Brenton-on-Sea, near Knysna, and was so successful that several others have been held subsequently. iGhali 2009 was held in Fish Hoek, hosted by the Cape Embroiderers' Guild.
iGhali 2012 ("Days of Yore") was once again organised by Helderberg Embroiderer's Guild. Master-classes and other topics offered are listed here. iGhali 2014 was held in Port Elizabeth.
The CEG was also the main organizer of "EMBROIDERY 94" which was arranged to celebrate our tenth anniversary.
"Stitched Flower Competition": During 2010 members were invited to stitch a flower in any type of embroidery. Many beautiful original entries were received, and these can be seen here.
"Band Sampler Challenge": For a small fee members received a design for a new band each month, for 12 months, from 12 different designers. Participants stitched the bands to form a sampler, using their own choice of fabric and thread colours. Samplers were displayed at our exhibitions.
Guild Exhibition 2013: this was held at the Little Stream Conference Centre in Constantia.
Guild Exhibition 2015 will be held at Nova Constantia Cellars from 20th to 24th September. A poster is available
